believe it is valid. I “guess” with more complex scenarios you might at some
point run into isolated support-issues with transactions, but not as a
frequent problem when maintaining [...]

I cannot confirm that. We have had to roll-back transactions and found that afterwards the data were in an inconsistent state. In other words: The app was _not_ putting everything that belongs together into one transaction in the DB.

That said, I agree that the vast majority of inconsistency issues is due to user input and has no technical background. So user actions should be the focus of improving data consistency. [...]

Tobias asked for SQL type queries, and a db comparison could work.

He could for example reverse engineer Murex processes by running a DBX Info –> Statistic while executing a static data change in order to figure out which tables are updated.
Or he could ask Murex, who might provide him with the tables that are touched as well. [...]

personally I do not believe, that you will have any outages, because of technical hiccups (sessions crashing, network, etc). Transactions in Mx.3/Mx G2000 work reliably. It might be a fine excuse for people modifying data, but I really doubt …

The problem with static data is that you need to have rather experienced people (some who have an understanding of the impact of a small setting) doing a rather stupid job (at least if they have to do a lot of changes). And to make matters worse you would need even more experienced people debugging issues which arise [...]

If you feel comfortable that your Sybase environment has enough capacity, why don’t you introduce a SQL based comparison of yesterday’s pre-EOD copy and today’s production database in which you compare the static data tables you want to ensure consistency for? You could then generate a report which is being sent to a relevant panel for verification, where the actual changes can be checked against the intended changes. This could be done prior to a EOD run in order to make sure that all runs smoothly. [...]

You are talking about static data and the inconsistency that can occur when several users are manipulating data content.
I have seen this happen many times and the biggest issue in my humble opinion is that too many users have the rights to make vital changes to the system.

My first advice is to review the rights structure. Only the static data team (and every bank should have such a team) should be able to make changes to static data. Many banks even have a separate team which is responsible for financial instruments and is solely responsible for [...]

We have done a lot of work recently to improve the stability of our Murex system.

But one theme which keeps reoccurring is ‘static data’ changes.

There appears to be two issues:

· Data where Murex delete a set of data and reinserts it, when a users edits a single value

This creates issues when multiple users edit the same set of data, where a user can wipe someone else’s changes or the is an error, and only the deletion occurs. [...]

Does anyboby have experience in migrating from Murex 2.11 to MX3 on FX

At most clients I have seen Commodities only being used as derivatives within Murex, meaning futures or other structures.
You can do almost any structure, and Metals are sometimes even handled as FX Spots.

Physical trading is not covered well in Murex yet, as this would require management of logistics as you already mentioned, and also insurances, inspections, etc. However Commodities is also a relatively new asset class within Murex, compared to the others. I am sure Murex ids working hard on enhancing the Commodities module for physical trading, as more and more clients around the world are [...]

I can confirm Murex are putting a lot of work into extending support in
the core platform for trading physical commodities, by building support
for capturing the logistics associated with physical trades – we have
been working closely with them and it is a major area of focus in 3.1.

Financially settled commodity trading ghas been well supported for quite
some time, and extends to some reasonably ‘tricky’ areas such as complex
gas formula trades, as well as full support for the vanilla swaps,

yes to all of your questions.

Pricing for commodity exotics can be tricky. So after checking with
your quants and product controllers you might prefer using your own
pricing library via the Flex API.

Also (and this is generally true for commodities) the details for any
market can be tricky as well. For instance “transport” can mean a lot
of different things for oil, coal, orange juice, … . So don’t expect
the solutions to be always straight-forward. But that has not so much
to do with Murex but with commodities per se. [...]

I agree
with Björn and have watched (and have also been proactively involved in) Murex
evolution over the last 5-6 years to handle Commodities.

It is currently deployed in major Investment Banks and Utilities Companies to
handle both the derivative and physical markets.

Bit as Björn points out no vendor system is ever perfect for all clients. [...]

I am trying to generate Interest rate related scenarios for stress testing. I use “Import variation from ascii” option to import the changes. For some of the scenarios the interest rate turns negative(stress scenarios say for example -10% movement from current interest rate). I would like the change to be floored to zero (e.g. if the market rate is 4.5% and my scenario is -5.0% then the applied scenario should be 0% i.e. max(0,market rate + scenario)). I have tried the Floor option in Var component analysis part but it did not serve the purpose. Can anybody suggest the best way forward in this case.

I have been using the trade repository for years, both on versions 2 and 3, and it works pretty well.
As far as I know all asset types are covered, including flex options, and most trade details can be imported (for example customized cash flows)
Version 2 also supports importing static data such as calendars, securities, generators. A lot more is supported in 3.1. [...]

I have a question,
I am using Murex 2.11
I have to update weights on (about 30) equity baskets underlying (about 30)
swaps on a daily basis.

To this day the input has been done manually !!

Is it possible to automate an uplaod of some sort, so that in the end i
could uplaod 30 blotters [...]

You can use the securities import tool (under Links > Securities Import) to import the basket weights via a CSV file on a daily basis. Murex should be able to give you a document on the required syntax.
